Virwox closing down. Am I SOL?

In 2016 I bought some bitcoin on Virwox, and then completely forgot about it. I recently got an email saying they're going out of business, and that I have to withdraw by January 6th to not lose my money.
I currently have about 1000 usd worth of btc but I really don't understand the website and customer service doesn't reply. I've read online that a lot of people are calling the site a scam.
Is there any way to recover my money?

WHY are we the thirteenth largest cryptocoin market, with more trade and more trend than bitcoin, and yet we do not have a single site trading USD/DOGE??

I have been purchasing coins through my friends account for some time now until finally I decided to register for my own at Virwox.
When I originally registered I thought I could exchange USD for doge, or even doge to Bitcoin right there on the site. But to my dismay, this is not the case. First you have to transfer them to another exchange site to convert your money around a few times, finally enabling you to make the final trade, BTC/DOGE.
This would be all fine and dandy if Virwox didn't have a mandatory 2 day delay minimum on all first transfers....And for people wondering there are no other places you can go to that don't do something similar.
I deposited my money three days ago when I intended to buy doge for .000276 USD and now I'm losing out on a great deal of doge coins when you consider the fact that the doge market GREW BY OVER 2 MILLION DOLLARS in the course of the last day and a half.(jan. 14 - 15). In affect reducing the amount of doge I can now purchase for my bitcoins from 210,000Doge(for 60USD) to 140k.
Edit: I forgot to mention the problems associated with having to exchange between different currencies. Firstly, any deposit into one of these crypto exchange sites take mandatory fees for just about every step in the process. My initial 60 dollar deposit was reduced to 57.65, and when I withdrew my bitcoins from the site there was a mandatory BTC xfer fee of .002 BTC.
Oh but it doesn't stop there, you see, because you have to exchange your coins through so many different currencies before it lands on Doge, you are forced to leave behind tiny increments of your coins in different crypto wallets, as most sites will have a minimum trade amount for a certain currency. Take SLL for example, they only let you convert a minimum of 35 SLL into BTC at a time. So if you have say 100 SLL wanting to be turned into BTC, you will be forced to leave behind 30 SLL, as you don't have the required 105

My Coins are in a "Imported Bitcoin Addresses" at blockchain, but if I try to import them to my wallet, it's only the original transfer, not today's value

How did I do this? I don't know. In Jan of 2015, I started spending a small amount of bit coin. However, I found out about blockchain and I transferred it to there.. I thought. It shows in the account as a "imported". Does this mean I set it up originally on another wallet? I'm not familiar with any others, but apparently I did if I transferred it...from somewhere.
Now, if I try to spend it (its the original $88 I had, not the new high price of $540 or something close to that).
I used the to get it from USD cash to SL to Bitcoin.
I have, I "think" a key for the wallet that I backed up when I made the account, it's in a json file, but I can open it in text to see it.
My question, how can I get my $500? Do I need to go back to the original place I moved it from... if thats what I did... confused.

How do I calculate taxes without complete records?

I bought bitcoin using around 10 different methods (including Coinbase and 3 other exchanges, VirWox, Paypal, Venmo, and BTC ATM's) over the past 4 years. I sold it back using just 5 different methods (Coinbase, Gemini, ItBit, BTC ATM's, and one Virwox (paypal payments)).
Coinbase was nice enough to send email transactions for every buy/sell/send/receive. Gemini and ItBit, too. But I used a few other places, like CoinMX and TruCoin which are out of business and did not send me detailed email receipts...I only have record of the USD I sent to them.
Over the past 4 years, I've spent ~$100,000 on bitcoin, and only cashed out $50,000. I'm not holding any coin. I don't know what the hell to do in order to calculate this.

Trading DOGE: Your full guide to trading Dogecoin for profit

NOTE: YES! This guide is long, but when you get started it's fast and easy.
Hi everyone,
my previous post about PTC's got so much hate. So I decided to make a full guide on how I made $120 last month. If the same interest and numbers remain you'll be making $100/month for two months, and $500/month for another month. On your third month, you'll be able to make over $750 if the market remains. These last couple of days I've just bought low sold high to people. The steps are really simple and anyone can do it, I'll show you all the steps in detail for maximum profits.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for your money or actions. Any accusations to me (Rynsi) will not be accepted, use it on your own risk!
1. Introduction
2. Get started with Dogecoin
2.1 Install your wallet
3. Choose trading sources
4. Where to sell Dogecoin?
5. Good advise
6. Summary
7. Proof of Screenshots for the naysayers
8. Links
1. Introduction
I started trading Dogecoin (I'll talk about this coin soon) 5th of February, and saw a great potential in making money with it. With this guide, you'll make 15%-30% of your money back with each trade because the current market is limited, therfor YOU can provite this service that many people request. I started with $72 and now have $220, which makes my ROI 205.5%. I will show you how it's made step by step before it blows up and become viral!
2. Get started with Dogecoin
You can use it to buy goods and services, or trade it for other currencies (both other cryptocurrencies or traditional currency like US dollars). By far the most popular use the Dogecoin however is for "tipping" fellow internet-goers who are creating or sharing great content. Think of it as a more meaningful "like" or upvote, with real value that can be used all across the internet.
2.1 Install your wallet
To start using Dogecoin, you'll need a wallet. A wallet is just like your online bank account, only your entire account is stored securely on your local computer or in the cloud. From your wallet you can send and receive Dogecoin, manage your address book and review a history of your transactions.
Desktop wallets can be downloaded and run from your computer's desktop. Desktop wallets are more secure as they don't rely on a third-party server in the cloud:
Windows (click to download)
OS X (click to download)
Source code(if you're using Linux, you'll need to compile the wallet yourself)
For Windows and OS X users, simply extract the .zip file to a secure location on your computer, then double click on "dogecoin-qt" to run. For information on how to use your desktop wallet, check out this great site.
3. Choose trading sources
You know now how to get a Dogecoin wallet, but you will need to get an online wallet to save USD on, one exchange site to trade USD to BTC and one to trade BTC to DOGE. It might sound a lot to do in the startup phase, but it's really easy once you get going!
3.1 USD/BTC Exchange
There are a lot of options when it comes to buying BTC, but for now VirWox is the only one that accepts PayPal and VISA purchases. You can choose many different kinds of sites that accept USD/BTC trades, that is another story that is another story to be told. VirWox has a limit of depositing $780 per month, but after 60 days you can deposit $2800 per month, so trading as much as possible will be the best thing to do if you want money.
USD Storage: PayPal
USD/BTC Exchange: VirWox (ref / non-ref)
To deposit dollars with (VERIFIED) PayPal to VirWox, you need to be a verified user. This is to prevent frautend actions such as chargebacks and instant payments. The deposit will be instantly made after you complete the order and you can start trade. To trade, you first have to buy SLL with the USD on your account [!!!WARNING!!!] USE LIMIT ORDER and NOT market order.
Now do the same, but with the SLL/BTC exchange. I repeat, do NOT use the market order. Use LIMIT ORDER to get as much BTC as possible.
You have now successfully completed a USD/BTC exchange!
3.2 BTC/DOGE Exchange
This step is almost similar to the previous Exchange, but this step is only with Crypto-currency (read Bitcoin and Dogecoin).
BTC/USD Exchange: Cryptsy (ref / non-ref)
To exchange to BTC, you need to withdraw your BTC from VirWox to Cryptsy. This is made in the Cryptsy balance page, where you can generate a BTC deposit adress. Unfortunately, you have to wait 48 hours the first time for VirWox to accept your deposit manually due to security reasons, all the other transactions in this guide will be almost instant.
Now when you have BTC on your Cryptsy account, you have to do the same as you did with USD/SLL and SLL/BTC, really easy! When you have traded to DOGE, your downloaded Desktop Wallet comes in handy. Deposit the DOGE from Cryptsy to your Desktop Wallet and you're ready to go to the next step!
4. Where to sell Dogecoin?
This is a great surprise I have waited to tell you, you use REDDIT to sell Dogecoin! It's really easy to do. Go to /dogemarket/new and see what the current prices are. You can sell for the same price as others, undercut for faster sales or overcut for slower sales (but bigger profits!). You structure the post by [SERVICE] AMOUNT RATE PAYMENT TYPE (SPECIAL OFFER). Here is an example, my last post where I sold Dogecoin. If you follow my conversation in that post you will see how typical trades are being made.
When you have traded the Doge you can make a post on the /dogemarket verification thread where you achieve levels that will be shown for other users through your flare. Notice the orage flares, those indicate level of trades, age and amount you have traded. These are good for noticing legit and fake users, but always be of scammers!
5. Good advise
A. Only accept GIFT (friends and family option) from (VERIFIED) PayPal, DO NOT accept eChecks or transactions that has to be accepted first. eChecks and Instant payments can be chargebacked and gifts will prevent this from being possible.
B. If you have reached VirWox deposit limit, wait a while to see how the BTC/DOGE market is going. You might make some extra 1000's of DOGE if you wait a while.
C. Always be nice and kind to the DOGE community, they are really friendly, patient and polite, be so too!
D. Try to be fast in your transactions on /dogemarket, good service equals good reviews.
E. PEOPLE WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU! Always check for names including "shibe" or "doge" and new accounts.
F. Have fun! If you have fun trading and communicating with other people on Reddit, you will enjoy yourself and have a better time making money.
6. Summary: A step by step guide to make $100+/month
(and $500+/month after 60 days if market remains)
Download your dogecoin wallet.
Sign up to PayPal, VirWox and Cryptsy.
Add money to your (VERIFIED) PayPal account.
Deposit the money to VirWox.
Exchange money to SLL.
Exchange SLL to BTC.
Withdraw BTC to Cryptsy.
Exchange BTC to DOGE.
Withdraw DOGE to Desktop Wallet.
Make a post on /dogemarket.
Recieve PayPal money from buyer.
Send Dogecoin to buyer.

USD --> DOGE is a hassle

I was considering buying a graphics card to mine (I have intergrated NVIDIA graphics, no CUDA support). I figured, if I am shelling out the cash for a graphics card, why not buy DOGE directly? If only it were that easy, shibe, if only it were that easy. Here is my story of the past 2 hours. Hopefully my post will help you learn what does not work.
coinbase: my bank account did not support "instant verification" so now I am waiting for the verification transfer, supposed to take 2 business days. Waited for 2 weeks before and it never came . . . I will be more vigilant about customer support this time.
localbitcoins: no one wants to meet and sell for cash in my area (same w craigslist). Other than meeting in person, I don't really understand the online transfers behind localbitcoins.
dogefordollars: it's closed apparently out of dogecoin
bitstamp: requires bank transfer. I will stick to coinbase for the time being.
justcoin: requires bank transfer. seems reputable though.
virwox: seemed encouraging because they took credit/debit card. requires purchase of Second Life Linden dollars, but I am willing to do that. However, credit/debit deposit requires deposit through ANOTHER service called Skrill, at which point I say why bother.
/dogemarket: haven't tried it, but half the posts there are about scams, which does not inspire confidence on my part. Plus, I would like to avoid PayPal, which appears to be their primary method of payment.
I am a software developer and consider myself a technical person. I am trying to be somewhat private and secure about this whole process, which I suspect may be making the process much slower and more difficult than it would be otherwise. Can anyone confirm or deny? Is buying cryptocurrency really this annoying? I guess the difficulty of transferring USD is one of the reasons why Dogecoin and Bitcoin are good ideas in the first place.

How Not TO Buy Bitcoin with Paypal Through VirWoX (Getting Your Account Closed/Suspended)

I wanted to create a totally anonymous website that no religious or political force can easily take down and threatens my safety (FREEDOM OF SPEECH!). This means having both domain and hosting services outside US and "controlled" countries.
One of the step is acquiring bitcoin to do the needed payment to be anonymous. I tried using the famous process of buying BTC through VirWox and would like to share HOW MY ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED to help others AVOID these.
Here's, the email sent by VirWox Support:
"Hello, unfortunately we have received high risk indications for your account. We have therefore refunded your payment and closed the account."
Here are the possible reasons why what I've done was high risk.
  1. Email account used is where there's no identity verification required.
  2. Used pseudonym and fictitious contact information throughout (let's call her Maria)
  3. VPN with IP on the address of Maria
  4. Browser cache cleared. Used private window.
  5. Turned off all "location" and other privacy invasive features of your computer.
  6. Created account on VirWox for Maria
  7. Deposited USD through a paypal account of a willing friend (thus different name from Maria)
  8. Bought SLL with USD
  9. Bought BTC with SLL
  10. Withdraw BTC
  11. All above steps were done on the same day
Within 48 hours, I got my VirWox account closed and all money refunded (including fees - good news atleast)
Next time, I would probably buy BTC from VirWox disclosing my real identity using my own Paypal. However, this removes one layer of anonymity.
Any suggestions on how to buy bitcoin with paypal allowing maximum anonymity? Thanks!

Does anyone here accept PayPal for Bitcoin?

I have $70 USD via PayPal and am looking to invest it all in bitcoin, Does anyone in this subreddit accept PayPal for BTC? If you did not open this post to trade please still have the decency to comment your thoughts/chances of me getting what I'm asking for without being scammed or delayed. I don't mind a fee just not a giant one. I have thought of using VirWox but when ever trying to purchase I get the message "Only accept confirmed PayPal accounts", yet my PayPal account is confirmed, according to PayPal support team. So help with everything would be great.

[uncensored-r/Bitcoin] Any provider to buy BTC with credit card?

The following post by gun3ro is being replicated because the post has been silently removed.
The original post can be found(in censored form) at this link: Bitcoin/comments/7g2dey
The original post's content was as follows:
I really have a hard time finding a reliable provider on which I can exchange my fiat money to BTC by using my credit card.
Some of them want lots of verification, but then they are still not offering to use credit card, some others want ridiculously high fees.
So far I have been using Virwox to exchange USD (using paypal) to SLL, then exchanging it to BTC...
Did anyone face the same problem? And what platform are you using?

So I finally bought my first bitcoins ever but I wanted some people to be aware of some limitations

If you're new to this entire process like me, you have to keep an open mind when attempting to buy bitcoins. Of course after the initial purchase it becomes easier to purchase. The website I used to complete this transaction was Virwox and it couldn't have been any easier. The problem I encountered was the fact that I attempted to use my debit card - the service they use to accept payments (skrill) does not work in Illinois so I was almost stuck. I ended up using my verified paypal account and it worked perfectly. I deposited 23.85 USD into my account after selecting the 25 USD payment. Skrill took a fee from that. Then I exchanged my 23.00 USD into SLL and then I exchanged my SLL into bitcoins.
EDIT: Oh yea I forgot to mention that you need to wait 24 - 48 hours before your funds get manually released. I sent a payment request and since I have a newly registered account, I need to wait for them to release it.

How to buy Bitcoins with Paypal

So I know a lot of people have been asking about this (and so was I) so I finally found a way to buy Bitcoins with PayPal. The whole idea is to circumvent the direct purchase of BTC with Paypal with buying SLL (Second Life Lindens) and then exchanging them for BTC.
You can find the original post on my Facebook notes here:
If you want a short rundown of how it's done then here's the deal:
IMPORTANT: This process hold within it more transaction fees than usual. This may still be a valid solution since the soaring numbers of BTC compensate for this. It's important for you to be aware of the different transaction fees.
Step 1: Go to VirWox.
VirWox is an exchange of virtual currency, you can buy there Lindens, Bitcoins, and more...
Step 2: Open a free account
Click on the "not registered yet" to open up a new account.
Step 3: Fill out our personal details
Fill out your username and email address. Where it asks for "avatar name" just fill out any name you like it doesn't matter, since you're not going to play Second Life. Continue filling out all of the personal details and click "register".
Step 4: Activate your account
Once you clicked "register" you will get an email confirmation with an initial password. Open the email and log into VirWox with your initial password.
Step 5: IMPORTANT!!! Change your password!
After clicking the confirmation link it is advised you change you password as shown below since you will be transferring money through this site. Do not worry about the message saying "Your avatar connection has not been validated yet" - it is irrelevant.
Step 6: Fund your account through PayPal
Click on deposit on the left side and choose PayPal Express. Fund the account with how many USD you'd like.
Note: From now on for each transaction you will make there will be a fee - make sure you are aware of the relevant deposit and withdrawal fees
Step 7: Buy SLL with USD
Go to Exchange->USD/SLL on the left side. You can also go to any other currency you'd like. Buy SLL (which mean Second Life Lindens) . We will later on exchange these SLL to Bitcoins.
Note: If you haven't made a deposit yet you will get the screen shown above requestion you to deposit before you buy SLL.
Step 8: Buy BTC with SLL
Once you have SLL in your account, go to the BTC/SLL and buy Bitcoins with your SLL.
Step 9: Withdraw your Bitcoins
Choose "Withdraw" on the left side and send the Bitcoins to your wallet.

Buying btc with a credit card or paypal.

Yes the infamous question most btc users have. Where the hell do i buy bitcoin INSTANTLY with a credit card? Currently i use virwox (1.usd->2.sll->3.btc) to purchase bitcoin but withdrawals take up to 2 days and im not to keen on that.
EDIT: and on top of the wait theres obviously a decent loss because of fees considering i have to convert my usd to sll and then my sll to btc

Best way to buy bitcoin

So, I'm trying to obtain some bitcoin for myself.
I have paypal/debit card I can buy with, but I don't know where I can exchange my USD for BTC.
I heard about but they ended up closing my account and refunding me my money, so I'm a bit skeptical of other websites now.
Does anyone know of a good website to buy bitcoin from? I have a BTC wallet on blockchain that I am hoping to put the BTC in.

Best Canadian Exchange

I've been using VirWox to transfer relatively low amounts of Bitcoin (few hundred dollars worth) to my bank (BTC > SLL > USD > PayPal > Bank) but I'm planning on increasing the amount to the thousands in the future so perhaps a dedicated exchange would be cheaper and faster. I'm wondering if anyone have any personal experience with reputable Canadian Bitcoin exchanges as well as their fees, registration, verification, and bank/PayPal transfer process.

Virwox rejected my account registration and got cocky about it too!

(1) Install the bitcoin wallet to your phone --write down the passphrase they autogenerate for you --send the bitcoin address to yourself (your PC) via email (2) Install Authy to your phone (3) Use a PC (or your phone) to visit VirWox and create an account: (setup 2FA for the account using Authy to generate the 6-digit MFA code) (4) Get the confirmation email from VirWox and relogin, changing your password in the process (5) In VirWox: --transfer $99 USD from Paypal (or Credit Card or Debit Card) to your VirWox account --exchange $99 USD to SSL --exchange SSL to bitcoin --withdraw bitcoin to your phone's wallet (you'll need to copynpaste the bitcoin address from your email from step (1)) --prepare to wait up to 48 hrs for VirWox to complete the transaction (first time users only, after that it's immediate) (6) After 24 hrs, get email from VirWox: VirWox>> Hello, unfortunately we have received high risk indications for this account. Poor experience with VirWox

So, here was me thinking I would use a website to buy Bitcoin to use to buy Dogecoin. I used VirWox as other Shibe said it was good.
This Shibe lost money, please benefit muchly from my experience.
So I deposit $USD
-Lose money from conversion from AUD to USD
-Lose money in PayPal fees (they take them out of your deposit)
To buy BIT I first have to buy LLD
-Can't convert ALL USD to LLD, so have money left over
Then need to convert LLD to BIT
-Can't convert ALL LLD, so have this left over also
And each and every step in the way they charge you a fee + %
Never again! I'd rather just wait to find someone willing to sell Doge rather than pay someone to use their computer for the transaction.

My wonderful little Bitcoin story

I run a small part-time business from my couch where I sell an online game currency for $$USD. I usually have my buyers use paypal "send to family or friends" option, so that I'm protected against chargeback fraud. However, today was different. I had a buyer from Singapore want some of my online game stock.
What's different between regular paypal and singapore paypal, you ask?
My paypal (Canada):
His paypal (Singapore):
No "Send to family or friends" option for him.
Why? I did a google search and found that singapore's got laws against this option:
I can't risk my personal bank account getting frozen by taking the regular form of payment (chargeback fraud can do this to the seller) since I am the single income earner in my household. So I had to tell him that I can't provide for him...
A couple minutes later oh crap, bitcoin, of course!, rush back the to the computer and ask if he'd be willing to do that. He was! I got him setup on, and transfered some bitcoin to me. He wants to be a regular buyer from me so he's going to seek out better ways (less fees) to get bitcoins in Singapore in the future to deal with me!
<3ing bitcoin today.
tldr; Singapore paypal regulation is no problem for bitcoin.
EDIT: has since stolen all my bitcoins on their site (.5BTC) and "refunded" me $250 in paypal, essentially stealing a few hundred dollars from me. Not cool, don't deal with them if can help it.
